Fast Friday is back.

I’m recording this early on a Friday morning, feeling clear, confident, and energized—and I want to share why one simple weekly ritual makes such a difference for me.

This episode isn’t about extreme fasting.

It’s not about willpower.

And it’s definitely not medical advice.

It’s about skipping dinner on Thursday and giving my body—and my brain—the night off.

Why I Skip Dinner (Not Breakfast)

For me, dinner is the easiest and most impactful meal to skip.

When we eat late, our bodies spend the entire night digesting. But when we don’t, something interesting happens: all that overnight energy gets redirected. While we sleep, our bodies are still busy—repairing, replenishing, healing, and recalibrating.

I like to imagine a little overnight factory foreman inside my body. On a normal night, he’s overloaded with digestion work. But when I skip dinner, he looks at his clipboard and says, “Alright team—less digestion tonight. Let’s work on the important stuff.”

And somehow… it works.

The Confidence Effect

The best part of Fast Friday isn’t the scale.

It’s the confidence.

When I wake up Friday morning after skipping dinner, I feel clearer. More decisive. More creative. More myself. That feeling alone becomes motivation to do it again.

Yes, the weight loss matters. I track it. I’m currently using Weight Watchers, which gives me a brutally honest look at what I’m putting into my body. But the deeper win is internal: confidence, momentum, and self-trust.

Rhythm Beats Willpower

Here’s the big shift: this isn’t about willpower.

Willpower fades.

Schedules stay.

Fast Friday works because it’s weekly. It’s predictable. It’s built into my rhythm. Thursdays become preparation days. Fridays become payoff days.

That consistency lowers the mental effort. I don’t debate whether I should do it. I already decided—last week.

Habits vs Routines vs Rituals

I’ve talked about habits and routines for years, but I think ritual sits at the top.

A habit is brushing your teeth.

A ritual is brushing your teeth while learning something new.

One of my daily rituals is watching a short educational video while brushing my teeth in the morning. It’s simple. It’s not fancy. No incense. No candles. But it stacks learning on top of something I already do.

Fast Friday works the same way. It’s not extreme—it’s intentional.

Go Slow. Build Up.

If this sounds hard, that’s okay. It is hard at first.

I just spent a couple of months in the U.S. surrounded by fast food, barbecue, and Texas sweet tea. I gained weight. I felt it—physically and mentally. When I got back to Europe, I didn’t flip a switch overnight.

I eased in. Lighter dinners. Later gym sessions. Then, finally, skipping dinner entirely.

Progress beats perfection.

Why This Matters Beyond Food

Fast Friday isn’t really about fasting.

It’s about clarity, courage, and confidence.

  • Clarity: knowing exactly what you’re doing and why
  • Courage: getting through the first few uncomfortable moments
  • Confidence: realizing you can trust yourself again

That pattern applies to everything—health, creativity, writing, work, and life.
